Sheikh Hasina to sign 3 MoUs with India

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Ms Sheikh Hasina will be arriving in New Delhi tonight on a three day state visit to India. Three anti terror pacts on mutual legal assistance, transfer of sentenced persons and on combating international terrorism, organised crime and illegal drug trafficking will be signed tomorrow after her talks with the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. A memorandum of understanding on comprehensive co-operation in the area of power including grid connectivity will also be inked. A Line of Credit for Bangladesh is also expected to be signed during the visit. Forward movement is also expected in addressing outstanding issues including those related to border dispute, sharing of water and connectivity. The Bangladesh Prime Minister will also be conferred with the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for the year 2009 on Tuesday .Our correspondent says that a lot of significance is being attached to the visit to take the relationship between the two neighborus to a higher trajectory.<br/><br/>The visit of Sheikh Hasina to India comes in the backdrop a great deal of good dwill generated in the last one year. The cracking down by Dhaka on northeast insurgent groups on its soil and the new government assurance that Bangladeshi soil will not be used for activities against India has created an atmosphere of ease in the relationship between the two neighbours that had been strained in the past. According to sources there has been greater synergy and a commitment on both sides to put their relations on more stable footing Political push is also expected to resolve outstanding issues including border dispute and sharing of Teesta waters.The intent is to take their relations on the high path of cooperation as should be between two friendly neighbours.<br/><br/>Mrs Sheikh Hasina who will be accompanied by a 30-member business delegation is also scheduled to go to Ajmer during her stay in India.
