Sheikh Hasina stresses on the need for quick disbursal of funds as promised at Copenhagen Summit

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today stressed on the need for quick disbursement of funds promised at the Climate Change Summit held in Copenhagen last December. Inaugurating the two-day conference of the Bangladesh Development Forum-2010 in Dhaka today, she said the funds will help in supporting her government's mitigation endeavors to face the grim challenges of climate change. Sheikh Hasina said her government has also intensified micro financing for poverty reduction under its Poverty Reduction Strategy Plan. The Bangladesh government unveiled a Poverty Reduction strategy paper- II on Sunday which needs an outlay of nearly 42 billion US dollars. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the donor agencies and countries to support her government’s programmes to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021, and also to achieve the goal of Digital Bangladesh. The two day Bangladesh Development Forum meeting is being held in Dhaka after a gap of nearly four and half years.<br/>
