Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fourth SAARC Energy Ministers meeting in Dhaka on Thursday. Addressing the inaugural session, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed on the need for SAARC member countries to collectively address the challenge of energy needs. She said, that as we embark on ensuring regional economic integration and inter-dependence, there is a huge potential to share knowledge, technology and resources in the energy sector to facilitate sustainable development. The Bangladesh Prime Minister added that the adoption of the SAARC Regional Energy Trade Study will provide a blue print for energy cooperation in a practical manner. She said that her country is currently working on power exchange with India and Myanmar and are also hoping to utilise the hydro-power potential in Bhutan and Nepal. Various issues like SAARC regional energy trade, framework agreement for cooperation and setting up of a regional power exchange are expected to dominate the discussion during the day long conference.
