Shashi advances, Vanlalhriatpuii out of world youth boxing

The Indian campaign was off to a mixed start as national champion Shashi Chopra advanced to pre-quarters but Vanlalhriatpuii bowed out in the opening round of the AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships at Guwahati today. Shashi defeated Uzbekistan's Durdonakhon Rakhmatova in a unanimous verdict in 57kg category. Vanlalhriatpuii went down to South Korea's Im Aeji in a split verdict in her opening bout in 60kg. Shashi, the gold-medallist from Balkan Youth International Championship, will next face the Chinese Taipei's Lin Li Wei-Yi, who got a first-round bye.Astha Pahwa will take on opponent from Bulgaria in 69 kg. India has a strong 10 members contingent in the event. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal inaugurated the event yesterday evening in presence of office bearers from AIBA and Boxing Federation of India. Nearly 200 players from over 30 countries are taking part in the event.
