The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has said that the sharp decline in the inflation figures show that the government has done well with regard to its monetary and fiscal policies. He said that the inflation figures made available on Tuesday take the country another step towards the forecast of inflation coming down to six per cent by March next year. He, however, said that it is important to stay on the planned path of policy. In a statement in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee while expressing happiness at the decline said that inflation in food including primary products and manufacture products is now down to 6.11 per cent against 9.97 per cent last month. He said that the only segment where inflation has gone up is in non-food primary articles because of rise in the prices of Coir Fibre, Copra and Safflower and some other items and their overall effect is small.
