Sharjah Court of Appeals fixes 17th February next date for hearing of appeals to death penalty of 17 Indians

Sharjah Court of Appeals has fixed 17th February as the next date for hearing of appeals related to death penalty of 17 Indians, found guilty by the Sharjah Shariah Court. The Court fixed the date after Thursday’s hearing in which the judge considered the offer of compromise given by the representative of the deceased person’s family. The representative of the deceased person’s family told Sharjah Court of Appeal that they want to bring the case to an end by making compromise with the accused. The defence lawyer told the Court that the 17 accused have not been proven guilty yet but they will come back to Court after consulting appropriate authorities. The convicts, 16 from the Punjab and one from Haryana, were found guilty by the Sharjah Shariah Court, allegedly killing a Pakistani national and injuring three of his compatriots during a clash in January 2009.
