Sharapova row: Meldonium creator says putting drug on WADA banned list human-rights violation

The man who created Meldonium, has said, putting the drug on WADA banned list is human-rights violation. Russian Tennis star Maria Sharapova, who holds a career Grand Slam and is one of the most high-profile stars in world sport, caused a furore yesterday when she announced that she had tested positive to Mildronate also known as meldonium.Professor Ivar Kalvins said in an interview to a Russian version of a Latvian news website that Meldonium, manufactured in Latvia, is used to treat heart trouble, including angina and heart failure. He said, Meldonium just helps to protect the athlete's heart from the consequences of physical overwork and is not a performance enhancing drug.
