NDA convenor and JDU chief Sharad Yadav today said that his party will favour Mr Pranab Mukherjee for the post of president as an individual and not as a Congress leader. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Mr Yadav said that his party always favoured a consensual candidate for the post of president but it could not be possible as the UPA did not take NDA into confidence.

On the other hand, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms.J.Jayalalithaa has said that other political parties should come forward and support Mr.P.A.Sangma's candidature for presidentship. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai today, Ms.Jayalalithaa said that there is no change in her party supporting Mr.Sangma. On the candidature of former President Dr.Abdul Kalaam, Ms.Jayalalithaa said that the decsion to support Mr.Sangma was already taken by her party. Ms.Jayalalithaa said that the Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms.Mamta Banerjee had sought her support for the former President to contest the election.
