Five times world champion Viswanathan Anand scored a crushing victory against Wesley So of United States in the fifth round of Shamkir Chess 2015 tournament. In the event being held in the memory of Vugar Gashimov at Shamkir, Azerbaijan, it was the first victory for Anand after four draws on the trot. With three points, Anand has now jumped to third spot in the strongest tournament of the year. He can look forward to the remaining tournament with a lot of confidence post the only rest day. Meanwhile, world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway outclassed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France. With four points, the Norwegian has emerged as the new leader in the ten-player round-robin tournament. Wesley So was on Three and a Half points, and has slipped to second spot.
