Mumbai sessions court today pronounced all three common accused as guilty in Shakti Mills photojournalist gangrape case in Mumbai. All three have been charged under a new rape law section 376-E which entails a life term or death penalty for repeat offenders. They have become the first to be convicted under this section. The quantum of punishment will be announced tomorrow.
The court had last month framed an additional charge under section 376 (e) of IPC which attracts maximum penalty of capital punishment under the new rape law.
Kasim Bengali, Vijay Jadhav and Mohammed Salim Ansari are the common accused who have also been convicted in the gangrape case of a telephone operator at the same Shakti Mill compound in July last year a month before the photojournalist was brutalised on August 22.
