Senior Muslim League (Nawaz), PMLN, leader, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been elected as the interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. <br/><br/>He got 221 votes in the National Assembly this evening. Four other candidates from Opposition parties were also vying for the post, but Abbasi emerged victorious in the race. <br/><br/>Former petroleum minister, Mr Abbasi will be interim prime minister for 45 days till Nawaz Sharif's brother, Shahbaz Sharif takes over from him. Before Shahbaz Sharif assumes the Office of the Prime Minister, he must get elected to the National Assembly. <br/><br/>Nawaz Sharif was disqualified as the Prime Minister by the Supreme Court last week in connection with Panama Papers scam.
