In Punjab, Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Games are beginning at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, this evening in which more than 4000 sportsmen and sports officials from every part of the state are participating.These games, which would become an annual feature in the Sports Calendar of the State, will have 11 sports disciplines including Athletics, Basket Ball, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Shooting, Volleyball, Weight Lifting, Wrestling and Tug of War.Starting from today till 6th March, this six day extravaganza will be held at Ludhiana, Mohali and Patiala. The closing ceremony will be held at Jalandhar. Having a biggest prize money of Rs. 2.31 crore in state games ever in India, this would also be for the first time that state games will be played under flood-lights. One of the main objectives of these games is to curb the menace of drug abuse amongst the youth of Punjab and attract them towards sports. The talented sportsmen will get an opportunity to secure employment in Government/Semi Government Organizations.
