Assaram Bapu accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl was arrested by Jodhpur police from his ashram in Indore late last night. He was lodged at Indore airport and is being taken to Jodhpur for further questioning this morning via Delhi. Heavy police force has been deployed at the airport to avoid any untoward incident. Superintendent of Police, Indore West, Anil Singh Kushwah told reporters that Armed with a medical report that the godman was fit to be interrogated, a team of Jodhpur police arrested the 72-year-old Asaram after waiting for nearly eight hours at the ashram.

An FIR was filed by a 16-year-old girl alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman at his ashram.

Condemning the attack on media persons earlier allegedly by supporters of Asaram Bapu, Congress general secretary Ambika Soni said crime against women would not be tolerated and whosoever faces allegations will be dealt with according to law.
