Sex ratio improves in Himachal

Ban of pre-natal sex determination test in Himachal Pradesh has led to considerable improvement of sex ratio over the past 17 years in the state. According to the state department of Health and Family Welfare data, the sex ratio has improved from 898 females per 1000 males in 1993 to 922 females per 1000 males in 2009. The data said campaigns launched by the Government to sensitise the common man about the imbalanced sex ratio has also helped in improving the situation.Giving this information, the State Health Minister Dr Rajeev Bindal said the State Government had also decided to launch 'Beti Hai Anmol' Yojna for the BPL families. Under this, the Government will deposit an amount of Rs 5,100 each in the Post Office for two girl child at the time of their birth.
