Severe snowstorm batters Washington

In the United States, an extremely dangerous snowstorm has dumped large amounts of snow in the east coast, shutting down the capital. About 10 inches of snow had fallen by 11.30 hrs. IST on Saturday in Washington. The National Weather Service put the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area under a rare 24-hour blizzard warning. It forecast up to 30 inches of snow in the capital, which would shatter Washington's record snowfall of 28 inches in 1922. All flights were cancelled at Washington's Reagan National airport. Late on Friday, the capital was left without a bus service after roads were deemed "impassable" and the metro stopped all but its underground service.
