Severe flooding leaves at least 58 dead in Cambodia

In Cambodia, unusually severe flooding has left at least 58 people, including 31 children, dead. An official of the National Committee for Disaster Management said heavy rains since August and overflow from the Mekong river have also left large areas waterlogged, affecting thousands of hectares acres of rice paddies. He said flooding this year has caused more serious damage than in previous years, adding that at least 5,633 families have been evacuated from their homes to higher ground. In neighbouring Thailand, almost two months of severe flooding have left at least 140 people dead.
