Severe cold conditions continue to prevail in Uttar Pradesh, while Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh got some respite from the biting cold on Tuesday due to sunshine at various places. AIR correspondent reports that the day temperature improved in the national capital. According to the Met department, the maximum temperature was recorded 19.2 degree Celsius which is two degree below normal while the minimum was recorded 4.5 degree Celsius.In Uttar Pradesh, there is no respite from intense cold wave. Lucknow was coldest place on Tuesday night where the temperature fell to zero point eight degree Celsius which is six degree below normal. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that fall in night temperatures below normal have been recorded at several places including Gorakhpur, Beharaich, Kanpur, Etawah, Sultanpur, Raebareli and Allahabad. It was seven degree below normal at Gorakhpur. But at some places increase in temperature has also been recorded on Tuesday night including Jhansi, Banda, Agra and Meerut. Today it is sunny at many places.Rail, air and road traffic continued to be affected due to dense fog in the state. State government has asked all municipal commissioners and executive officers of Nagar Panchayats for arranging bone fire at most of the public places during night. AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that bone-chilling cold continues to sting eastern India with the mercury nose-diving to seven-year lowest in Kolkata on Tuesday. Kolkata recorded a low of 9.9 degree Celsius, the lowest in seven years, while hill station Darjeeling at -1.0 deg C was the coldest in the state.
