Severe cold conditions continued in many parts of the northern region. Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir registered a minimum temperature of minus 20.2 degree Celsius, even as people in Delhi witnessed a pleasant weather on the Republic Day on Wednesday. Ladakh region settled at 20.2 degrees below freezing point and Leh recording a low of minus 18.4 deg C.The 'Queen of Hills', Shimla, shivered under piercing cold wave following fresh snowfall and sleet last night. The minimum temperature dropped to minus 0.1 deg Celsius and thick ground frost in Shimla and its surrounding areas hampered vehicular traffic , while water pipes froze and burst in several parts.Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest in the Valley with minus 8.7 deg C. Srinagar city witnessed a slightly colder night at minus 4.4 deg C. Most parts of Punjab and Haryana experienced severe cold condition.In Rajasthan, SriGanganagar was the coldest place with a minimum temperature of 5.1 degree Celsius.
