Several states launch welfare schemes on Republic Day

<br/>Pomp and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations through out the country on Tuesday even several states launch welfare schemes on the occasion.<br/><br/>In Rajasthan, a state-level Republic Day function was held at Sawaimansingh Stadium in Jaipur amidst tight security. The Governor, Mrs. Prabha Rao hoisted the tri-colour and took salute from a mixed parade of RAC, Police, NCC and school children.<br/><br/>In Gujarat, the state level function was held at Surendranagar where Governor Dr. Kamala unfurled the tricolor on Tuesday morning. Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.<br/><br/>AIR Chandigarh correspondent reports that Haryana celebrates Republic Day by remembering national freedom fighters on this auspicious occasion.<br/><br/>Despite the economic slowdown, Maharashtra has managed to remain the most favoured investment destination in the country, having attracted 53 percent of the foreign direct investment in the last financial year; Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan said this in Mumbai on Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>In Madhya Pradesh, the 61st republic day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur across the state. Sankaranarayanan said this in Mumbai on Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>Speaking at the state level Republic Day celebrations at Shivaji Park in Central Mumbai, the Governor said the state government is committed to inclusive and all-round development.<br/><br/>In Goa, Several programmes were held all over the state to mark the occassion.<br/><br/>The main state level function was held at Campal parade grounds in Panaji where the state Governor Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu unfurled the national tricolour, reviewed the parade, took salute and later addressed the people of the state.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sidhu said today India is proud to be the world's biggest democracy founded upon human values which have bound the people together inspite of diversity of culture, language, region, religion, caste and creed.<br/><br/>In Bihar, the main function was organized at Gandhi Maidan in Patna where Governor Devanand Konwar unfurled tricolour. Mentioning achievements of the state government Mr. Konwar exhorted people to sink their differences and come forward for the all round development of the state.<br/><br/>In Orissa, the Governor, Mr. Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare unfurled the tri-colur at the state-level Republic Day function held at Bhubaneshwar on Tuesday. <br/><br/>Amidst Orissa bandh call given by Maoists, eleborate security arrangements were made for the grand parade. The Governor took the salute and witnessed the cultural extravaganza displayed by folk artists.<br/><br/>Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik appealed to the insurgent groups to give up violence and come to the table for settlement of all their problems. The Governor was addressing the people at the main function of the Republic Day after unfurling the national tricolour at the historic Latashil Field in Guwahati Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>Nagaland celebrated peacefully the nation’s 61st Republic Day with Governor Nikhil Kumar calling upon the people to work unitedly for sustainable peace in the state. Unfurling the tri-colour at Republic Day function at the State Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima Tuesday morning, the Governor appealed to the people to secure permanent peace in Nagaland.<br/><br/>The Republic Day was celebrated all over West Bengal in a befitting manner. A colourful parade was organized at the Red Road in Kolkatta where contingents of Army, Navy and Air Force took part in the parade besides police, paramilitary force and the school children.<br/><br/>The Governor, Mr. M.K. Narayanan took the Guard of Honour. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Minister, Mr. Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, his cabinet colleagues and members of the diplomatic corps.<br/><br/>In Sikkim, the Governor Mr Balmiki Prasad Singh hoisted the tri-colour and took the salute from marching contingents drawn from State and Central Police and Para- Military Forces at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.<br/><br/>In Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor, Mr. J.J. Singh unfurled the tri-colour during the main celebrations in capital, Itanagar. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, his government will carry forward the development agendas in all sectors including education, power and health.<br/><br/>In Meghalaya, the Republic Day was celebrated throughout the state with gaiety and enthusiasm amid tight security arrangements. The function was held at Polo ground in Capital Shillong where the Governor R S Mooshahary unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at an impressive march past by various forces.<br/><br/>In Andhra Pradesh, Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan hoisted the national flag and took the salute at main ceremonial parade in Hyderabad Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>In his first Republic Day address to the people of the state, the Governor asked them to ensure peace and harmony so that the strides made by the state in Development and welfare sectors could be sustained and the pace of progress could be maintained.<br/><br/>In Kerala, the Governor, Mr. R .S. Gavai unfurled the Tricolour at the 61st republic day celebration at Thiruvananthapuram.<br/><br/>Addressing a magnificent parade of the armed forces and paramilitary forces, the Governor urged the people to be alert against terrorism. He asked the state government to step up efforts to contain price rise of essential items.<br/><br/>Patriotic fervour and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations in Lakshadweep islands. The Lakshadweep Administrator Mr J K Jadoo hoisted the National Flag at the Kavarathi Stadium on Tuesday morning and took salute.<br/><br/>In Puducherry, the Lt. Governor Dr. Iqbal Singh unfolded the national flag at the colourful Republic Day function held at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. He inspected a Guard of Honour and presented police medals and to meritorious personnel. <br/><br/>In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, colourful parade, cultural events, presentation of police medals and commendation certificates, tribal sports, tribal folk dances and students rallies marked the Republic Day celebrations. <br/><br/>In Port Blair, the Islands' Lieutenant Governor, Lt. General Bhopinder Singh unfurled the national flag at the historic Nethaji stadium and took the slute.
