Several major rivers continue to be in spate in Uttar Pradesh due to heavy rain and release of water from Uttarakhand and Nepal. Twenty seven districts are facing flood fury across the state, with main rivers Ganga, Yamuna,Ghaghra and Sharda and Ramganga flowing above the danger mark in different places. According to the state government, 13 crore rupees has been sanctioned for flood-affected districts so far. Fourteen companies of PAC and three teams of National disaster relief force are also engaged in relief operations in the state.More than 20 lakh people have been directly affected by the current flood situation in Uttar Pradesh where all main rivers are overflowing the danger mark in different places .Besides loss of several lives, nine thousand houses and several roads have been badly damaged across the flood-affected districts . The floods have also affected the agriculture.According to government officials, the flood relief is being provided to all affected people and about 60,000 people are living in different shelters. But the flood, which is almost an annual feature in some districts, has also raised questions about the need to minimise the flood fury through proper planning.
