Several programmes organised across nation marking two years of 'Swachh Bharat Mission'

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan completed two years today. Launched in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the mission is a national campaign by the Government of India to make the country clean by 2019. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that various programmes were organised to mark the second year of the mission. <br/>In the national capital, President Pranab Mukherjee flagged off a march at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as symbol of commitment to the Mission. In his address, Mr Mukherjee said, synchronizing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with Mahatma Gandhi's birthday is most appropriate as he had always emphasized on adoption of cleanliness in the daily lives. <br/><br/>Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Smart Public Toilet Unit at Rafi Marg in New Delhi and also ate lunch with sanitation workers at Shivaji Stadium. Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also today flagged off a Swachata Rally at India Gate. Addressing the gathering, Mr Naidu said that various state governments and people across the nation have shown their interest in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and expressed happiness for its success. <br/><br/>Mr Naidu along with Communication Minister Manoj Sinha today released a special postage stamp on Swachh Bharat. <br/><br/>Health Minister JP Nadda, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Tourism Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel, participated in a cleaning drives in different areas of the National capital. <br/>The Ministers also administered swacchta pledge to participants. <br/><br/>37 districts including Porbandar, birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and about one lakh villages were declared Open Defecation Free today.
