Several new AIIMS being set up under PMSSY: Govt

The Government has implemented Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, PMSSY with the primary objective of correcting the imbalances in availability of affordable and reliable tertiary level healthcare in the country. <br/><br/>Several new AIIMS are being set up and existing medical institutions are being upgraded under the PMSSY. The Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Faggan Singh Kulaste said this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.<br/><br/>He said Central government launched the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 2005 to supplement the efforts of the State and Union Territory governments to provide accessible, affordable and quality healthcare to the citizens. <br/><br/>Mr. Kulaste said the NRHM has now been subsumed under the National Health Mission (NHM) as its Sub-Mission, along with National Urban health Mission as the other Sub-Mission. <br/><br/>Under the NHM, support is provided to States and Union Territories to strengthen their health systems including support for setting up and upgradation of health centres. Nearly 500 maternal child health Wings with bed capacity of more than 30 thousand have also been approved under the NHM. <br/><br/>He said, there is unmet need of specialized care and large number of people has no or poor access to specialized care.
