Unfurling of National flag, marchpast and cultural functions marked the Republic Day celebrations in the States.

In Odisha, Governor M.C. Bhandare unfurled the national flag at Bhubaneswar and took salute of the combined parade. A total of 68 teams from state police, CRPF, NCC, defence establishments, scouts and guides, Red Cross including various folk dance groups participated in the colourful ceremony. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, unfurled the tri-colour at the historic Barabati stadium at Cuttack.

In Meghalaya, Governor Ranjeet Shekhar Mooshahari led the state level celebration at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Shillong where he unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour. AIR correspondent reports, there were many tableaux depicting ‘Border Haat’ at Kalaichar on Indo-Bangla border, which was inaugurated in July last year.

In Puducherry, Lt Governor Iqbal Singh unfurled the national flag and inspected the guard of honour presented by the Armed police at the Uppalam Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. Tableaux depicting the achievements of various departments of the territorial administration were part of the parade.

In Jammu and Kashmir, despite the bone chilling minus 21 degree Celsius temperature, a good number of people turned up at the Republic Day celebrations at Khree Sultan Choo Stadium in Kargil.

The Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan hoisted the National Flag.
The main state level function was held in Jammu where Governor N.N Vohra hoisted the national flag and took the salute of the march past. In his address the Governor said though disturbances in Jammu and Kashmir had adversely affected development for some years, the recent spurts in economic activity has shown that progress can be achieve when normalcy prevails.

63rd Republic Day was celebrated in Maharashtra with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. In the main function, Governor K. Sankarnarayanan unfurled the national flag at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. He took the salute at an impressive parade which also saw participation of more than 200 school children. Governor reaffirmed commitment to the Constitution of the country and the democratic values cherished in the Constitution.

Republic Day was celebrated with full fever in Jharkhand. People were seen participating in different programmes. Few new government schemes were also announced on this occasion.

The Governor of Karnataka H R Bharadwaj greeted the people of the state on the occasion of 63rd Republic Day. In his address on this occasion in Bangalore today, the Governor strongly advocated a need to restore probity in public life. He assured that there shall be no dilution or weakening of the Lokayukta in the state.

A colourful display of tableaux, folk dances and march past by India Reserve Battalion and local police marked the Republic Day celebrations at Kavarathi in Lakshadweep this morning.

Several functions were held to mark the 63rd Republic Day celebrations in Goa. The main state level function was held at Campal Parade grounds in Panaji where the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat hoisted the national flag, reviewed the parade, took salute and later addressed the people of the state. He called upon them to work unitedly to make India a super power in the world. Later school students drawn from various schools staged a colorful pageantry.

In Kolkata, a colourful parade was organised at the Red Road where contingents of Army, Navy and Air Force took part, besides there were police and pra-military forces and also school children. The Governnor Mr. M.K.Narayanan took the guard -of-honour. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee and her Cabinet colleagues and members of the Diplomatic corps.

In Arunachal Pradesh, state Governor Gen (Retd.) JJ Singh said violent and forcible bandhs have no place in a democracy. In future, the government will deal with all such anti social activities with a stern hand. Addressing the Republic Day function in Itanagar today JJ Singh said that physical infrastructure development projects are more or less on track in the state.

In Rajasthan, Governor Mr. Shivraj Patil hoisted the tri-colour in Jaipur. He honoured 43 Government and Police officials and other persons for their accelent work in various fields. He honoured 3 police officials with President's Police medal. Paralympic player Jagsir Singh and film actor Irfan Khan were also honoured.

The Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar unfurled tricolor at historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Addressing the gathering Mr.Konwar said the state government is committed to do development of the state with social justice.

The 63rd Republic Day of the country was also celebrated in Manipur amidst tight security in view of the boycott of the R-day celebrations by underground organizations. State Governor Shri Gurbachan Jagat unfurled the national flag at the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal and he took salute of the march-past contingents.

In Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy unfurled the national flag and took salute at the 63rd republic day celebrations held in Thiruvananthapuram. In his speech the chief minister pointed out that India is emerging as a front line economic and political power in the world.

In Gujarat, the main function was held at Bhavnagar, where Governor Dr.Shrimati Kamala unfurled the tricolor in the presence of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. Showers of flowers from the Air Force helicopters and colorful march past along with beautiful tableaux were the main attractions of Republic day Parade.

Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik said the State government has achieved a significant milestone in tackling militancy. Unfurling the National tri-colour in Guwahati, Mr. Patnaik said, the multi-pronged strategy adopted by the Government in the form of sustained development efforts along with the counter-insurgency operations, paid a rich dividend which has been reflected in laying down of arms by most of the major militant groups in the State within last few months.

In Andhra Pradesh, pomp and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations through out the state. Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan in his address on the occasion, stressed the need for maintaining peace in the state as it is a pre-requisite for all-round development and well-being of the society.
