In Uttar Pradesh, several Congress workers were injured in Police lathi charge at state capital Lucknow when they attempted to march towards Vidhan Bhawan during a protest demonstration. State party president Dr.Rita Bahuguna Joshi and All India Congress Committee Secretary Pervez Hashmi, who is in charge of the party's affairs in the state, were among those who suffered injuries. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the state unit of the women Congress had staged a Dharna to protest against atrocities against women, specially highlighting a case where a 16-year-old girl committed suicide recently after being raped in Kanpur.
