75 members of Rajya Sabha belonging to opposition parties on Monday presented to the Chairman Mohd. Hamid Ansari, a notice of the motion for the removal of Justice P.D. Dinakaran, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. They include Leader of Opposition in the House Arun Jaitley, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yachuri, CPI leader D. Raja and SP leader Amar Singh and other opposition parties. According to an official release, the Rajya Sabha secretariat is examining the matter as per the provisions of Judges (Enquiry) Act and the rules that have been framed under it. The Law and Justice Minister Mr. Veerappa Moily while evading a direct reply on the issue, said matters relating to appointments in judiciary are not discussed in public. Justice Dinakaran's elevation to the Supreme Court has already been held back with the Centre returning the file recommending his promotion. The Supreme Court collegiums is yet to formally take a decision on it.Meanwhile, the Congress today sought to steer clear of the Dinakaran issue, saying the party is yet to take a decision on the matter. Congress spokesperson Abhisek Singhvi told reporters outside Parliament that it was not proper to comment on the issue as no decision has been taken by the party yet. Singhvi said there may be individual opinion on the issue but as a political party Congress has taken no decision on it. Major opposition parties, including BJP, AIADMK, SP, Left parties, JD(U) and Akali Dal have sought impeachment of Dinakaran.
