Seventeen militants surrender in Arunachal Pradesh

Seventeen militants belonging to ULFA, NSCN and All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) have laid down their arms before Brigadier J.S.Negi of the 19th Assam Rifles Headquarters located at Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh. Our Guwahati Correspondent reports six hardcore ULFA cadres led by Sergeant Hiranya Phukan of the 28th battalion of the outfit were among the surrendered. The militants deposited seven pistols, one revolver, three carbine, 22 rifles, two radio sets and huge quantity of explosive materials at the time of laying down arms. Welcoming the militants to the national mainstream, Brigadier Negi said, the surrendered militants will now be given training in different self-employment and income-generating activities in its rehabilitation centre. Our Correspondent reports, this is one of the major surrender of militants in the region after the arrest of five top ULFA leaders, including the self-styled chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa earlier this month.<br/>
