The situation in the Kashmir valley continues to be tense with seven more persons dying in fresh protests and clashes and scores got injured on Sunday. Four persons died in a blast in khrew area of Pulwama district after an angry mob set a police camp on fire. Later, the police personnel there, were evacuated by army personnel housed nearby. The blast occurred as the ammunition in the camp went off. More then thirty people, most of them protesters, got injured in the blast and the number of causalities may go up. Earlier, a woman was killed in the area in police firing and two youth got killed when security forces opened fire in nearby Pampore where protesters set tehsil office and some government vehicles on fire. Many people were also injured. There were protests in the evening in many areas in the valley and more than a dozen people got injured in police action at Anantnag, Sopore and Srinagar. AIR correspondent reports, Chief Minister has appealed for peace and also vowed not to allow perpetrators of violence to win. Asking people to cooperate with him to help restore calm in the state, Mr. Omar Abdullah said, he is willing to take 10 steps forward and appealed to them to take at least one step and help create a situation conducive to end the cycle of violence. Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Security met last night and took stock of situation in Kashmir valley. The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. This was the second time in less than a month that the CCS is discussing the situation. Views of the political parties and security agencies are believed to be have been discussed besides the proposal of state Chief Minister Omar Abduallah for beginning an internal dialogue with all shades of opinion. Official sources said after the 75-minute meeting that Mr. Omar Abdullah will meet the Prime Minister today for discussions on the political and administrative steps that are needed to defuse the escalating situation.
