Seven ministers loyal to Yeddyurappa threaten to quit Karnatak cabinet

Seven ministers loyal to Yeddyurappa have threatend to quit Karnatak cabinet. Their decision comes a day after the Supreme Court ordered a probe by the CBI against the former Karnataka chief minister for nepotism, illegal land acquisition and favouring top mining companies.

The ministers – Shobha Kharandlaje, V Sommana, MP Renukacharya, Umesh Katthi, Basavaraj Bommai, Murugesh Nirani and CM Udasi – have submitted their resignations to Yeddurappa, who will take a final call on the matter on Monday.

The Supreme Court had yesterday asked the CBI to file its report by August 3, asking it to probe the allegations against him. The allegations pertain to Prerna Trust managed by members of Yeddyurappa's immediate family, which received a huge donation from the mining company favoured by him. The role of South West Mining company, a Jindal Group company will also be probed.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia also stayed all the proceedings relating to the matter before any court in Karnataka.

Yeddyurappa, while welcoming the Supreme Court order, had said, Political conspiracy hatched against him has made me an accused in illegal mining though it is I who stopped it.

A Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court had earlier recommended a CBI probe against Yeddyurappa.
The panel had suggested that the CBI should investigate in detail, alleged misuse of office by Yeddyurappa as the chief minister. It said prima facie massive illegalities seemed to have taken place, including serious violation of rules to de-notify agricultural land, allowing the BJP leader's relatives to make a huge windfall when they resold de-notified land at an enormous profit.
