The Centre has asked the Jharkhand government to set up a separate development authority to carry forward its initiatives for the upliftment of seven thousands tribal families in the Saranda forest.Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has written a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda in this regard.In his letter, Mr. Ramesh has called for a realistic timeframe for providing basic facilities including houses, bicycles, solar lamps and employment-oriented kits to the tribals.He has underlined the need to include the villages on the periphery of forest under the Plan for their better development.The Minister has also asked the state government to show urgency in tackling Left-Wing-Extremism in the region. Mr. Ramesh has urged the Chief Minister to allocate land for setting up 24 more CRPF camps in the region at the earliest. The Ministry has already cleared six thosands units of houses under the Indira Awaas Yojna for the tribals living in the six gram panchayats in the forest. It has also cleared six watershed programmes for the State's West Singhbhum district.
