Session Court rejects Gujarat govt’s application opposing Bhatt’s bail plea

In a setback to the Gujarat government, a Session Court today rejected its application opposing bail to suspended Sanjiv Bhatt. The court began hearing his bail plea even as his remand application is pending in another court. The Session Court Judge V.K. Vyas adjourned the hearing on Bhatt's bail plea till 7th October after partly hearing arguments of Bhatt's lawyer.

The Gujarat government yesterday moved an application opposing the hearing of the Bhatt's bail plea on the grounds that his revision remand application was pending. The sessions judge said that he was of the opinion that Bhatt's bail application should be heard, even if the remand application was pending in another court.

Bhatt was arrested on 30th September in connection with an FIR filed against him by police constable K.D. Pant in June, for allegedly threatening him and making him to sign false affidavits regarding a meeting called by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on 27th February, 2002 hour after the Godhra train carnage.
