Services were banned from this year's Ranji Trophy cricket season for skipping a match against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar citing security reasons. Services forfeited the Plate Division match at the Sher-E-Kashmir stadium, hosting a Ranji game after a gap of five years, leaving the J&K Cricket Association chief Farooq Abdullah livid. Mr Abdullah threatened to take up the matter with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, saying Services had negated the government of India's positive assessment of the state's security situation. Aware of the sensitivity of the matter, the BCCI promptly disqualified Services from this year's Ranji Trophy and said further action would be decided at its next working committee meeting. On the other hand, Services on Tuesday apologised to the BCCI and offered to play the game if fresh dates were allocated. After their forfeiture led to angry reactions from the J&K Cricket Association, Services went into damage control mode and offered to play the game. Services' apology for skipping Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar and its offer to play the game on fresh dates failed to move a miffed BCCI which has decided to stick to its decision to disqualify the team. BCCI spokesman Rajiv Shukla told News Agency that BCCI has taken the decision to disqualify the Services team from playing in this year's Ranji Trophy. Since the decision has already been taken it will not be changed. Soon after the Services tendered its apology to its parent body, the top brass of the BCCI discussed the issue among themselves before deciding to stick to its stand.Services forfeited the Plate Division match at the Sher-E-Kashmir stadium, hosting a Ranji game after a gap of five years, and the BCCI immediately banned SSCB from playing in this year's Ranji Trophy.
