With Gold in Athletics and Weightlifting, Services (SSCB) yesterday surpassed their National Games record of 59 Gold, 46 Silver and 37 Bronze which came in Guwahati four years ago. With a new record of 62 Gold, 45 Silver and 38 Bronze in the on-going edition of the Games, Services have taken an unassailable lead over its rivals Manipur and Maharashtra. Manipur are second with 44 Gold while Maharashtra remained at the third position with 38. In Archery, Jharkhand's star Deepika Kumari, lost to Assam's Prativa Boro in the finals to provide the biggest jolt for the hosts. In another shock of the day, the 17-year-old Indian sensation Deepika Kumari also managed a silver as she faltered in the women's recurve final. Deepika, who was given the honour by the hosts state to light the Games' flame, fell to intense pressure, as the Indian Olympic hope lost out 4-6 to a cool and composed Assam girl Prativa, in a nerve-wracking final in Jamshedpur. On the day of upsets, the boxing ring provided another stunner when 21-year-old Pinky Jangra knocked out reigning Asian champion Sarita Devi in 51 kilogram category. Inspired by Pinky's performance, Haryana grabbed seven gold medals in boxing to shoot themselves to number five spot ahead of Kerala on the 12th day of competitions in the multi-sporting event.
