United Nations has warned that international commitment for rebuilding of Afghanistan is diminishing and will erode further if serious steps are not taken by new government to carry out reforms. UN Special Representative to Afghanistan, Mr. Kai Eide said today that there is an intensive debate among donor nations contributing financial and military resources about their level of commitment. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Eide said that more such questions will arise in future and new Afghan government will have to demonstrate that it is serious on tackling corruption and bringing reforms. Mr. Eide said that an international conference is being planned early next year to endorse key reforms and finalize key priorities for the war-torn country. The UN official said the conference should lead to Afghanistan taking full responsibility for its sovereignty and economic development. He said, Afghanistan cannot remain in a state where warlords and powerbrokers continue to play their role.
