Series of activities held in Mumbai to mark 20th anniversary of Kargil victory

A series of activities were held in Mumbai today to mark the 20th anniversary of Kargil victory. A Tri-Service Guard of Honour was presented as homage to the valiant martyrs at Shaheed Smarak at Colaba in the presence of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too laid a wreath in the memory of Kargil martrys.<br />''<br />'' Besides, IN Ships Chennai and Mumbai were opened for school children today. The crew of the ships interacted with an enthusiastic lot of about 8000 kids and briefed them about the significance of Kargil War apart from providing an in-depth tour of the ships and its capabilities.<br />'' <br />'' A victory run was organised at Air Force Station in Kanheri Hills near Mumbai, where students were briefed about the functioning on Indian Air Force in Kargil War.<br />'' <br />'' Later in the day, an Exhibition Football Match was organised at Cooperage ground between the teams of Armed Forces and Bollywood personalities.<br />'' <br />'' While attending a Kargil Vijay Diwas function organised by Atharva Foundation in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister said the state government has increased assistance to martyrs families from 5 lakh rupees to 1 crore rupees. Besides the state has also decided to provide two acres of land to widows of martyrs at a place of their choice and without any stamp duty. <br />'' <br />'' Mr. Fadnavis said Kargil is a great chapter of Indian history which showcases courage, valour and fighting spirit. He added that India has joined the list of nations like USA and Israel who take a firm stand whenever an attempt is made to attack their sovereignty.<br />''
