Thailand was hit by a series of bomb attacks by suspected insurgents this morning. The National News Bureau of Thailand reported that a total of eight bomb attacks occurred at various places in the southern most province of the country with bank branches being seemingly the main targets. Two local residents got injured in the attacks. Among the attacked spots are branches of the Government Savings Banks in the city of Narathiwas and Rangae district, and inside the ATMs of Krung Thai Bank in the city of Narathiwas. Thailand's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, and the four districts of Song-kla province. Over 3,500 people have been killed in the daily violence by the suspected separatists since January 2004.
