The Serbian parliament has issued a formal apology to families of more than seven thousand people killed by Bosnian Serbs at Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia in 1995. The resolution adopted late yesterday condemned the massacre but stopped short of describing it as genocide, the term used by the Nations.

The motion, approved by a narrow majority, says Serbia should have done more to prevent the tragedy. The murder of nearly 8,000 Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) was carried out by Bosnian Serb forces – allies of then-Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
