Serbia beat Germany 1-0

In the World Cup Football on Friday, Serbia upset one of the tournament's favourities Germany by a solitary goal. In their second Group D match in Port Elizabeth, the all important goal for Serbia came in the 30th minute through Milan Jovanovic. The goal came a minute after Germany were reduced to 10 men. Miroslav Klose was shown the red card after his second offence in the encounter. A psychologically down Germany desperately searched for the equaliser and got many chances to do so. The most significant one came in the 69th minute when they were awarded a penalty. But the spot kick by Lukas Podolski was well saved by the Serbian goal keeper. Germany's last defeat in group match came in the 1986 tournament. The victory today is a historic one for Serbia. They last beat Germany in 1962 as part of Yugoslavia.
