Sensex up by 71 points on global cues

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 71 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 17,782 points in early trade, today, on continued buying by foreign funds, amid firm global markets. After paring some of its gains, the Sensex stood 21 points, or 0.1 percent in the green, at 17,732 a short while ago. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, China and Singapore posted modest to good gains, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.4 per cent, overnight. Global bourses rose after a report showed that US consumers continued to spend last month, and after Greece successfully raised money from the debt market.
