Sensex up by 473 points

Snapping a four-session losing streak, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange zoomed 473 points, or 3 percent, to 16,524, on reports of a proposal to cut the Securities Transaction Tax, and on the back of rising global markets, on Tuesday. The Sensex had lost more than 1,000 points in the last four trading sessions. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 136 points, or 2.8 percent, to 4,971.Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore jumped between 1 percent and 5 percent, on reports that European policy makers are considering new plans to support European countries struggling with debt.
