The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged 333 points, or 2.1 percent, to 16,496, amid firm global markets today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 102 points, or 2.1 percent, to 4,932.Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea rose between 0.3 percent and 2.3 percent.
