Sensex up by 26 points in opening trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 26 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 16,909 in opening trade, today, on selective buying by funds and retail investors. Later, trading remained lacklustre and range-bound, and the Sensex stood 36 points, or 0.2 per cent in the green, at 16,918 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. The 30-share Sensex had lost 150 points in the last two trading sessions. Other Asian markets in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea were down by between 0.1 percent and 0.8 percent, today, as investors continued to fret about the euro zone debt crisis. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had lost 1.1 per cent in yesterday's trade.
