Sensex up by 24 points

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 109 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 17,700 in opening trade today on fresh capital inflows from foreign funds. After paring most of its early gains, the Sensex stood 24 points, or 0.1 per cent in the green, at 17,614 a short while ago. Bharti Airtel gained after the company signed a deal with Kuwait-based, Zain Telecom to buy its African business for 10.7 billion dollars. The bourses in Japan, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore were down between 0.1 per cent and 1 per cent.
