Sensex up at 17,195 pts in afternoon deals

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 70 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 17,167 in early trade, today, led by a surge in IT stocks. Later, the Sensex climbed further, and stood 98 points, or 0.6 percent in positive territory,at 17,195 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. The 30-share Sensex had lost over 400 points in the past two trading sessions. Other Asian markets in Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan were trading mixed.
