The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 70 points, or 0.4 percent, to 17,168, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 17 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,133. Stock markets in Japan, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong posted modest gains.
