Sensex up 290 points to close at 19,270

Rising for the third straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange jumped 290 points, or 1.5 percent, to close above the 19,000-mark, at 19,270, today, as the rupee strengthened further. The Sensex had advanced almost 750 points in the previous two trading sessions. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange gained 87 points, or 1.6 percent, to 5,680.Stock markets in China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore climbed between 0.1 percent and 0.8 percent.
