Sensex trims initial gains; Stays in positive territory at 20,879

Trimming its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 28 points, or 0.1 percent in positive territory, at 20,879 in afternoon trade, amid volatility, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had gained 70 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 20,920, on continued buying by funds and retail investors, amid a strengthening rupee. The Sensex had advanced over 650 points in the previous two trading sessions.Elsewhere in Asia, stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore were trading mixed, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.1 per cent higher, after crossing 16,000 points for the first time ever, in yesterday's trade.
