Sensex surges more than 450 points in afternoon trade as Asian markets rally

Rebounding smartly, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange spurted 326 points, or 2.1 per cent, to regain the 16,000 level, at 16,175, in opening trade, this morning, on across-the-board buying by investors, triggered by a rally in the other Asian bourses. Afterwards, the Sensex gathered even more steam, and stood a solid 463 points, or 2.9 percent in positive territory, at 16,311, in afternoon trade, a short while ago. The 30-share Sensex had lost nearly 650 points in the last three trading sessions.Other regional markets in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan were up by between 0.6 percent and 2.8 percent, today. Asian stocks rose after US central bank chairman, Ben Bernanke's speech encouraged investors.
