Sensex surges in opening trade

The Sensed at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged 244 points, or 1.5 per cent, to 16,673 in opening trade, today, amid rising global bourses. Remaining firm, the Sensex stood 264 points, or 1.6 percent in the green, at 16,693, a short while ago. Stock markets in Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Japan and Taiwan were up between 0.3 percent and 1.3 percent. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.8 per cent, overnight.
