Sensex surges by 363 points in closing trade

Rising for the third straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged 363 points, or 2.2 percent, to 16,847, today, on sustained inflow of foreign funds, amid hopes of a solution to the euro-zone debt crisis. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange gained 113 points, or 2.3 percent, to 5,050. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore ended mixed.
