The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange staged a smart recovery, by surging 399 points, to regain the 17,000 level, at 17,256, in opening trade, this morning, on renewed buying by investors, in line with a smart rebound on the other Asian bourses. Later, the Sensex eased somewhat, but still stood a good 246 points, or 1.5 percent in positive territory, at 17104, in afternoon deals, a short while ago. The Sensex had lost more than 1,450 points in the past six trading sessions.Elsewhere in Asia, the key stock indices in Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Indonesia had rallied between 0.3 percent and 3.2 percent, today, following overnight gains in the US. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had surged almost 4 per cent, overnight, after the Federal Reserve announced that it would keep interest rates near zero for at least two years.
